The Museum of Natural History offers the general public a chance to get to know nature, particularly, the natural patrimony of the region. It assures a good conservation of its collections and offers unique information and research possibilities to schools of all degrees as well as to researchers.
The exhibitions
Be they temporary or permanent, the exhibitions in the Museum transmit knowledge and promote its collections, with pieces of high patrimonial, scientific, esthetic and didactic value. The exhibitions are also a means of creating awareness for the richness of our natural patrimony as well as for current subjects.

The collections
The natural science collections are an important source of reference material for the scientific community. Because of their esthetic beauty, they also attract a wider public. The collections of the natural history museum, composed of hundreds of thousands of samples, are divided into three sectors: earth sciences, zoology, and botany.

For everyone
The Museum of Natural History is known to the people of Fribourg for its permanent and temporary exhibitions dealing with different areas of the natural sciences. Feel like having a tête à tête with the whale? Or admiring a meteorite from Fribourg? Or meditating by the aquariums? Or of making sure the cave bear still has all its teeth? This calls for a visit to the Museum!

Let's Talk Science
The museum leads several scientific projects such as the satellite tracking of bird migrations or the inventory of the Prealpine flora. These projects deal with biodiversity and its conservation. Their main goal is to monitor the species in question, to document and study them for scientific purposes, to protect them, and to make the public aware of the importance of protecting nature.
