arc.gif (3351 octets)

The migration of the White Storks has 2 paths: an Eastern route via Turkey, the Middle East, the Nile Valley to reach East Africa and even South Africa, and a Western route via Gibraltar to reach the North of Africa.

White Storks from Switzerland migrate with the western stork populations via Gibraltar.
Mid July -beginning of August dispersal of young birds
August- September migration
November - December arrival in southernmost areas
January- - February beginning of return trip

Questions :

  • Why don’t all Swiss White Storks all migrate?
  • Do White Storks from the same area leave at the same time?
  • Do they stay together during the winter and for the return trip?
  • Where do they make stops?
  • Do they all choose the same migration path?
