"Birds without
Borders" (from May 6 to November 11,
2000) |

Within the framework of the project "Fribourg in Europe"
organized by the University for the 25th anniversary of Europe Day and at the occasion of
the 100th anniversary of the scientific tagging of birds in Europe, the Fribourg Natural
History Museum is preparing for the year 2000 a temporary, bilingual, travelling exhibit
on bird migrations.
This exhibit will present the history of bird tagging with
rings; the different techniques used for tagging birds; the possible roles that bird
tagging will play in the study of their migrations (in following the fluctuations of
their populations and of their survival; in determining changes in their migratory
behaviors; in the study of their daily and seasonal routines during migration; and in
determining if they are faithful to their breeding places, to their nesting areas and to
their wintering sites); the migration of birds (orientation, strategies, etc.) and
the new techniques used to study bird migrations. |
